Kiwanians Reading in St. Joseph for Summer 2017

During Summer 2017, the Youth Service Committee headed by DP Norma Chase held Reading Sessions and the St. Joseph Library's Summer Camp. These sessions were hosted on July 13th, 20th, 27th and 31st.

The programs for the sessions were coordinated by K Sonia Bannister. The children participated in rhythm poetry, reading sessions, dance and they practiced for the skit “A Sunny Day in Bim”, which was acted out on the last day of camp on July 31st, much to the delight of those present. Refreshments were provided by K Sonia and served to the children after each session. Many thanks to Astrid Mayers (Librarian) for providing us with the opportunity to serve the children. Also, a donation of Art & Craft supplies were presented to the library for use, during the camp. These were gratefully accepted by Ms. Mayers.

Kiwanians participating were K Sonia, DP Norma, PD Loretta and DS Annette. Together the team summed 220 service hours, sharing and laughing with 20 children. They were supported by 3 Friends of Kiwanis.

Kiwanis Barbados Central Sponsors A New Service Leadership Club

On Friday March 3, 2017 in the Assembly Hall at Springer Memorial School, the Eastern Canada & Caribbean District Governor Phil Rossy presented the charter to the newly sponsored Springer Memorial Builder's Club, during his visit to Barbados. The Builder's Club caters to those students from first form to third form who have a passion for community service and being a part of the Kiwanis Family. The club was an answered suggestion to those K-Kids leaving the primary level and entering secondary school but having to wait until fourth form to join the Key Club.

Congratulations go out to the charter members of this club who also celebrate their entrance or continuation within the K Family; and also to the Faculty Advisor(s) and the Kiwanian Advisor DLG Delores Lewis.
